What Happened to The Suitcase Scholar?

It’s been two years since my last post. Here’s why: 2020 happened. 2020 was a bad year for travel blogs. 2021 wasn’t much better. Then, to make matters worse, this site was hacked. And then a lot of time passed and I felt like even if I fixed the hack I’d need to write some kind of long explainer post about why there’s been no content here for two years and that all just seemed like a lot. And there was enough going on in the world and I just…couldn’t.

Remember those months when we all just…couldn’t?

But I’ve been slowly starting to travel again. That travel looks and feels different in a post-2020 world–which means there’s much to be shared. I miss sharing travel stories, tips, and recommendations. I miss having conversations with my readers. I miss creating this content. So here we are.

I paid to have this site fixed.

I wrote a short explainer post (that’s this post, in case that wasn’t clear.)

That feels like everything I need to do.

Let’s begin again, shall we?

PS. The image in the header is a photo of an in-progress flag pole installation my dad is working on in our front yard. I realize it looks terrifying and ominous. It’s not. It’s actually one of the most wholesome things ever (pun intended.)  I used it both because there really is no better photo to illustrate the past two years but also because I’m working on using images to get people to click on my posts. How’d I do?
