A culinary arts lesson in Charlottetown, PEI

What is a Suitcase Scholar?  It is anyone who understands that the best way to learn is to experience life–and a really great way to experience life is to travel!  In twenty-seven years of education–eight of those as a classroom teacher–I’ve learned more about myself and the world by getting out into it than I could ever have hoped to learn (or teach) in a classroom.  Some of these lessons are academic in nature–such as how to tell the difference between a spruce and a fir or how to shuck an oyster.  Other things have been self-discoveries or philosophical realizations about the way the world–and the people in that world–work.  Not every lesson has been a pleasant lesson to learn–but each lesson has made me who I am today.

I’d like to share those lessons with you.

It is my goal to share valuable lessons with you, my reader.  And so, every post that you read here on The Suitcase Scholar will teach you something.  Or at least I hope it will.  I strive to make my posts as informative as possible, even if all I’m informing you about is how good a certain restaurant’s softshell crab sandwich was.

Additionally, when I travel, I seek out educational opportunities whenever possible.  Thus, you will find posts about photography tours, culinary tours, zoos, environmental centers, and a whole host of other educational destinations featured on The Suitcase Scholar.  And, on here as in the classroom, I encourage you to raise your hand and ask questions freely.  Of course, by ‘raise your hand’ I mean ‘write a comment’.  I will always answer as best I can.

Thanks for visiting–come back again soon!
