Staycation All I Ever Wanted…

Despite my attempted mini-road-trip-plan, my friend and I didn’t go anywhere last week.  I had several reasons for this, all of which are too boring to share.  And I’m glad we didn’t. Instead, we had a ‘staycation’. While I do really hate that word, in practice it’s actually quite a good idea.

So what did we do?  The same things one does whilst on vacation, just within a two hour drive from my house–where we stayed each night.  We went shopping.  We went out for lunch (and dinner).  We went to local markets and got pretty food and prepared it–in the comfort of my own kitchen which comes with the added benefit of my own knife, olive oil, and husband to clean up the dishes.  We visited a tourist attraction, in this case Longwood Gardens.  Just like tourists, we took pictures…

This actually helped a lot with my current ‘build a hobby’ project.  We drank rum with mint from pretty glasses and sat on the porch.  I spent less time online (and less time being productive) than I normally would, but did it all from the comfort of my own home.  It was my first-ever staycation (god I just really hate that word…sorry…it’s an English teacher thing) and I think it was successful.

Now I get to spend the next 12 days being super productive in every possible way before we leave on our actual vacation.  No matter how many second thoughts I have about this upcoming trip, it just keeps barreling towards me with frightening speed.  Open road, get ready for us.  I hope your roadside restrooms are open and your overpasses free from construction!
